Parent Involvement

Harrison  Elementary School

School-wide Parental Involvement Plan

School Year: 2017-2018

Mission Statement:

The teachers, students, and parents of Harrison Elementary School strive to have confident, focused, independent learners who have confidence to actively participate and challenge themselves to take academic risks. We strive for a community where children demonstrate mutual respect, self-control, and cooperation as they resolve conflicts and embrace diversity.

What is a Parent Involvement Plan?

A Parent Involvement Plan describes how parents and educators will work closely together to complete the School-Wide Plan. Parents and educators have collaborated to develop both the School-Wide Plan and the Parent Involvement Plan.

What is happening in 2017-2018?

Harrison Elementary School has submitted a School-Wide Title I Plan (SWP). This plan is a detailed improvement plan that guides the school on how best to help all students be academically successful. Each year, a planning committee reviews and revises this plan.  As Harrison Elementary is a Title I school, all students are considered Title I students, which affords many opportunities to assist students’ achievement in reading, writing and math. Come hear about our plan on September 6, 2017 from 6pm-7pm at our Open House.

How can parents and staff work together to help our students? We have a variety of ways to involve parents:

-Jointly revisit Parent Involvement Plan for our school that is easy for all to understand and update plan yearly to inform all parents of the plan to be shared at the first staff meeting at the beginning of the school year  and at the first Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) meeting in September.

-Review the Home-School Compact during first trimester.

-Family Events:  Each trimester events or assemblies will be focused on literacy or math to support parents in helping their child to succeed in school.

This year, our family events include:

  • Open House: September 6th

  • “Table Talk Tuesdays”: This is a chance for family members to join their student(s) at school for lunch once a month. These dates are:  September 12, October 10, November 14th, December 12th, January 9th, February 13th, March 13th, April 10th, and May 8th.

  • “Bring Your Family Member to School Day”: December 12th, March 14th

  • “Aspire Higher” March: October 18th

  • Career Day: October  TBA

  • Student-led Conferences: November 2nd, February 2nd

  • “One School, One Book”: March - April

  • STEM Night: November 1

  • Music concerts: Fall/Winter and Spring

  • Classroom Writing Celebrations: At the completion of each unit of writing, classrooms will coordinate a celebration of writing on an individual classroom basis. Dates to be determined.

  • Sixth Grade Civil War Encampment: June

Solicit feedback from parents and staff on School-Wide Title I plan on a continual basis.
