Parent Involvement

Hebron Station School relies on volunteer support to accomplish some of the many learning opportunities that occur throughout the year. Volunteering can happen in a variety of ways. During the day, volunteers work with individual and small groups of students within the classroom, provide clerical support for teachers, and assist with carrying out special events such as book fairs and field trips. Parents and guardians sometimes offer to work at home doing things such as cutting out materials, organizing a project, or making phone calls. We invite everyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer to stop in the office and speak with either myself or the secretary, Mrs. Colby and we will give you the necessary forms to fill out.  If you have filled out volunteer forms in the past, you are all set to volunteer with us again!

Another way to become involved in the life of HSS is to join the PTO. The PTO is an active group of parents and community members who sponsor fund raising projects during the year. The money generated from those events goes toward field trips, guest speakers and the purchase of materials. Our PTO is a wonderful organization and we encourage you to join us and assist us in enriching the education of all of our students.

Hints to Build Better Readers

Utilize your resources:

  • The World Book Encyclopedia can be found online.  Find Games, Quizzes, maps and more at  This site offers a "Student Resources Center" and "Monthly Feature Section" that may give your child ideas on how to complete research or just look up things that may be of interest to them.

Read around your home:

  • Newspapers and magazines are great ways to get children interested in current events.
  • Younger children may find comics interesting.
  • Make every minute count, read cereal boxes and food packaging.
  • Read Recipes, Menus, Road Signs everything counts.

Make time to read with your child everyday.  Don't force them to read.  Look for articles and magazines that interest them.  Before you know it, they may just be bringing the reading to you!
