Harrison students and staff are going for the gold, in this year's WinterKids WinterGames.
For the sixth year, Harrison Elementary School is competing with schools across the state during the four week competition. The goals are to get outside and active during winter, have fun, and maybe earn some funding to purchase more outdoor gear! This year, there is a focus on weather!
Our WinterGames2024 kicked off on Tuesday morning with "Weather at Your School." WMTW Meteorologist Ted McInerney broadcast live weather reports starting at 5:30am! Was great to see over 30 students, and their families, attending this early morning event. You can see more here: https://www.wmtw.com/article/weather-at-your-school-harrison-elementary-2025/63456051
Mr. McInerney then kicked off our WinterKids WinterGames with a whole school assembly where we learned all about weather and his role as a meteorologist. Students demonstrated Respect and Responsibility during the assembly and then asked some great questions! Two students were selected to ask a meteorologist a weather question, and will have their question shown on air!

During Week #1, students completed many activities related to temperature! Building ice Sun catchers, word searches, CO2 capture game, etc. We had fun getting active and learning all about temperature!

Students observe the school weather station -they will record weather data each day!

We can't wait for Week #2-Precipitation (hopefully we get some snow!).
Don't forget, there are so many awesome outdoor opportunities here in the Oxford Hills, including Robert's Farm in Norway where there is free snowshoeing and cross country skiing available. Check out the WinterKids WinterGames app and use code HES25 for tons of free/reduced cost outdoor activities.
Family lunch on Jan 22! Family ice skating on Jan 29 @5pm. Be on the lookout for flyers being sent home.
