Healthy snack fun

WinterKids is flying by!

We have finished Week 2-All about Nutrition. Two more weeks to go----will we win the gold??

This week, students completed activities to help them understand the importance of good nutrition, while staying active during the Winter months.

Each student received a water bottle (thank you WinterKids!!) and our first task was to track how much water we were drinking each day. This is definitely something I need to work on, personally!

Other activities included, Sugar bucks-budgeting for how much sugar we should be eating in a day, word games, creating a 15 second PSA-to share important nutrition/healthy tips.

One of the highlight activities was "food from around the world." Our amazing kitchen staff, Ms. Lisa, had a different food for students to try that was inspired from culinary trends around the world. PLUS, each student should have brought home a folder with each of the recipes to try making at home. We loved seeing students try new things, I wonder if anyone has a new favorite food?? The chicken fajitas smelled amazing.

A Surprise bonus this week was a visit from NewsCenterMaine and the WinterKids Executive Director, Julie. Students were filmed doing activities or sharing their PSAs. Once we know when the segment will be airing, we will share with families.

So many amazing things happening at HES-Thank you to all the students and staff who participate and thank you to WinterKids for keeping us outside and moving!
