Dear Families,

The leaves are beautiful and I am taking every opportunity to enjoy our scenic Maine landscape this fall. Some years are more spectacular than others and this fall feels extra colorful. During our whole school morning meetings, I have been sharing beautiful things that either I or the students find, such as feathers or other natural objects. If anyone is going to share colorful leaves, our chances are soon to be over.

The school year continues to be positive. The building vibrates with energy most every day. Teachers are teaching, kids are learning, and we have a supportive environment. The students are being ‘caught’ following our S.O.A.R. expectations and are purchasing experiences with their tickets. As of this afternoon, 42 students have purchased experiences. See our FB page for pictures of some of the students completing their experiences. This is part of our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Thank you to those families who were able to complete our family survey to help us know how we are doing. See a graph of our scores at the end of this letter.

We have several opportunities coming up that I would like to remind you or inform you about. Please note that you can always find events and days that kids are not in school on our Hebron Station School website events page.

  • We are wrapping up our Valley View Pie fundraiser this week. All orders and the money are due on Friday, October 21. If you need another order form, call the office.

  • Parent/Teacher conferences are this Thursday, October 20. If you signed up for a conference, but haven’t heard back what time it is, contact your child’s teacher.

  • We will be hosting some Hebron firefighters on Friday for Fire Prevention Awareness. Three volunteers are scheduled to visit. They will be teaching the students about fire safety and showing them what a fully dressed firefighter looks like so they won’t be scared should they ever need to be rescued.

  • Our Trunk or Treat fundraiser is Saturday, October 29. This is a fundraiser for our scholarship fund. Every year the school has given one or two $500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. This event allows us to raise some money as well as provide a community event for kids 12 and under.

  • We are completing NWEA testing which is the State of Maine’s required academic testing under the Maine Comprehensive Assessment System. Students in 3rd - 6th grade take an adaptive reading and math online assessment in the fall and the spring to measure growth. Testing will be completed by the end of the month.

  • Skiing and lessons at Lost Valley groups discounts for our school is back! Go to this webpage for more information. The deadline to sign up is December 15.

Finally, I encourage you to find out more about the latest internet sensation, Huggy Wuggy. Here is an article from Forbes online. Huggy Wuggy is a character from the horror survival game Poppy Playtime. The game is rated for 12/13 and up. Fans of the game have begun to make unsettling scenarios on TikTok and YouTube using the character. Some kids are only seeing the related content. I hope you will take a little time to do a little research. We are discouraging students from playing inappropriate Huggy Wuggy scenarios during recess.

We are always available to answer questions. Please send an email or give us a call.

Best,

Jamey
