Good Evening Vikings,
I am writing this email on behalf of the Elementary Building Committee, who will be making a recommendation to the MSAD#17 Board of Directors about our upcoming school construction project. The Committee is the choice between consolidating three of our elementary schools and maintaining an elementary school in each town.
Last week, over 20 students from OHCHS worked at all 8 polling stations in the district to survey voters. Thank you to the 1500+ voters who took a few minutes to answer four survey questions about school construction. That data will be published once it is compiled and shared with the Elementary Building Committee.
If you are interested in learning more about the project, or providing input to the committee, please check out the following documents for opportunities:
Elementary Building Committee Community Engagement Calendar: This document outlines the timeline for the various data collection strategies the committee will use to gather input.

Oxford Hills Voters Approve School Budget
Voters in the Oxford Hills School District approved a $50.1 million school budget for the 2024-2025 academic year by a vote of 1175-865 on Tuesday, October 8. The approved and updated budget was shaped with input of nearly 500 community members who participated in a survey in August. It includes $3 million in reductions to the budget first proposed in June and contributes to a 13% two-year decrease in leadership employment.
The approved spending plan includes new investments in student safety, continues the district's commitment to reducing chronic absenteeism, and responsibly funds district commitments to instruction.
The budget does not resolve upcoming decisions about school repairs, construction, and elementary school consolidation. Nevertheless, uncertainty about the future of Agnes Gray Elementary School in West Paris, determined to be uninhabitable in February, complicated consideration of the annual school spending plan.
"Voters of the Oxford Hills have signaled strong support for students and educators," said Troy Ripley, Chair of the MSAD#17 School Board. "The Board appreciates the participation in our process and hard work of our school leaders.
"We have some hard decisions to make about the future of our local schools," continued Ripley. "These decisions will be made together, through an open and transparent process that gives Oxford Hills residents the final word on school repairs, consolidation, and construction decisions.
